I can only imagine the impact that learning about value and light theory at the beginning of my career, instead of a decade in, would have had on my artistic journey.
Doing things the hard way made the WynnColor System possible in some ways, but I recommend an easier path.
WCS was created to help tattoo artists learn and get results faster.
After 8 years of scrambling to get my head around the craft of tattooing, plateaued for years, I was beyond frustrated. Then in 2021 I finally stumbled head first into light theory. I had heard a very well known and successful tattoo artist talking about learning the sphere form for the first time.
How could I make art for a decade and not realize that by studying light, which carries color and form to our eyes, I would become a much better artist, much faster?
Admittedly, I was scared. Fear of failure. Fear of success. Maybe both. Afraid I wouldn’t be good enough. Or maybe too good. Just fear, holding me back.
Some will say you can’t loose if you don’t play; Others say not playing is the only way to loose.
I say let all that noise float right out of your brain, up into the sky, and dissipate into the universe.
At WynnColor, everyone is given the exact same opportunity to learn the main core concepts and building blocks of art, in an easy, strait forward, practical and applied, visual manner.
No one gets left behind, so everyone who plays wins. We succeed, only when you succeed.
We believe in you.
For me, 2021 was a year of non stop artistic enlightenment and growth.
It happened at such a fast pace, I could barely keep track of all my discoveries.
Thankfully, I had already started writing “Unlocking The Freedom Of Color” and the book became a technical journal, a log of my artistic awakening and how it directly applied to body art.
What is now the WCS textbook, is an unbiased documentation of exactly what visual and written information was needed to trigger these important discoveries, and has now begun to help others to have similar experiences.
The book, and the Wynncolor system in general attempts to meet any artist at any level.
The book is meant to promote artistic growth, enlightenment, and ultimately help cause the same paradigm shift in the way the reader thinks about and perceives body art.
“Unlocking The Freedom Of Color” is like a reading the instructional manual to the game of art and tattooing. We are all already playing anyway, but I never even knew where to start.
Its set it up so no one can fail, or get left behind, or worse, never even get started. Put more simply, it’s pure visual information. All it does is explain the rules in a very carefully constructed sequence so that everything you need to understand each concept builds upon itself in a step by step manner.
In the first Video of Module One of the WCS full course, I go over the first 20 pages of the book called “The Value and Light Primer”.
We build a value chart together, by studying properties of light, and then apply it by creating a hi-contrast photographic reference, which we then turn into a tattoo stencil, and use the stencil to do a 5-value drawing study.
Its a crash course in simplified tattoo light theory, with tons of practical and applied knowledge, that leads directly into issuing simplified color theory.
And it’s forever free on the WynnColor YouTube Channel and WynnColor.com.
Art is for everyone.
The softcover copies of the first printing of the book are available on sale until they are gone.
